Remarkable researcher (he studied double and multiple stars, the topography and atmospheric composition of the Moon and Mars, aerolites, variations in the obliquity of the ecliptic), dedicated in his last years to spiritualist and occult practices , and very intelligent popularizer of even the most abstruse astronomical theories in a simple style full of inspiration, he left a large number of works.
In 1887, Camille Flammarion founded the French Astronomical Society, which was a model for groups dedicated to spreading public interest in science. This was the same year he also inaugurated the dome and refractor telescope at his Juvisy observatory.

Good condition of the binding, work in its rigid red cloth covers, blue and gold ornaments on the front with some color losses, presence of a large crack on the front joint all along and cracks on the rear joint, book which remains united, ornaments on the black back, friction wear/scratches, worn corners, red fabric spine with slightly faded gilding, legible gilt title and ornaments, trimmings present, all edges gilt.
The longer pages that can be unfolded to see big pictures and/or illustrations, remain in great condition. First page of the book is not attached to the binding - page which contains only the book title.
